So I’ve been in “IM” for a while, but never in the Internet marketing niche.

I don’t want to market IM to you, especially not IM education. You are bombarded with this every day and I don’t need to add to the clutter.

I want to help you and

New To Internet Marketing What Can I Do For You?» [more]

Well I’ve spent the past couple of days getting established at all of the social network site. I was able to keep the Squidoo lens of guru blog posts updated but not much else.

I did this because it is just something that needed to be done. I did this now, instead of moving forward with the other projects I’ve mentioned, because I have a team depending on me in the Thirty Day Challenge (more on that later in another post).

But now the task is done and I’ve got my tracking tools in place like Friend Feed and Twhirl. But the tedium is not over yet. You can find me at all the major bookmarking services and social network sites under the nick mfartr. If I’m not there let me know and I’ll join the network if it looks promising.

Yup, just as feared jumping in head first has caused some issues. Some of them technical, no big deal, but some that I think do you disservice.

So I am taking the time to reorganize. The first step will be moving all of the current content into the blog category.

Don’t worry, I’ll be using .htaccess to redirect everything so if you bookmarked me you don’t need to change anything.

You’ll also see the upcoming posts for the next couple of days going under blog as well while I formulate a more useful navigation and categorization model.

One thing you can look forward to is a new page that will allow you to search and categorize by one or more tags.

So if you want to see all of the entries for a particular experiment, or all of the posts about free traffic, you’ll be able to.

This is a response to the blog entry “Improver” or “Inventor” in Your Business? by Alex Mandossian. He gives example of “improvers” that that have prospered with projects “invented” by people who died destitute despite their genius.

Alex,

Your point is a good one. Most of the time it is more profitable, and definitely more efficient, to “improve” than invent.

You see the quotes around improve? That’s to call attention to your examples which equate improvement with being made more accessible and commercially viable.

Did Bill Gates improve the computer? That is did he make it function better? make it easier to use? make it more aesthetically appealing?

In my years of Mac vs PC arguing (which I have abandoned as it is as useful as sweeping out a tent) I found even staunch PC users would concede he did none of those. So what is it he “improved”?

What was his improvement?

He made them cheap and put a name behind them that people would accept. He made them commercially viable to the main stream.

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs improved the computer too. They took what started as a circuit board on a hobby bench and made it function better, easier to use, and more aesthetically pleasing and came up with the Apple.

This made them wealthy, but not to the extent it did Bill Gates. It was too exclusive, e.g. to expensive and difficult to understand, than the PC. And when the Steve’s improved again and created Macintosh Bill’s commercial viability enabled an inferior product to dominate.

The point is even in the realm of improvement there is inventive improvement and commercial improvement. Alex’s examples, and the point I took from his post, focus on commercial improvement and we should too; if commercial success is our goal.

Is there such a thing as inventive commercial improvement? Sure, but it’s very rare. The best example I can propose is Apple CEO Steve Jobs v2.0. His second round at Apple has proved his understanding of both innovation and commercial viability.

I used to consider myself an inventor, and condemned those not willing to perish nameless and penniless in the name of their creative endeavors. Now I have a different view.

I seek inventive commercial improvement, in the long run. I realize commercial improvement is where to start. Not just because there are more profits in it, but because it is the right thing to do.

If something is commercially improved it means people like it and get to have it en masse. That’s a good thing. More important, without commercial improvement an inventive improvement may never see the light of day. That’s bad.

So go forth and improve, commercially, and prosper. If you’re inventive do that too, but maybe later, and always with an eye to commercial improvement too.

Like I said, I get distracted creating posts by starting new posts. Just like a factory missing the last piece of a product they back up on the conveyor belt and nothing gets delivered.

Right now I have at least 8 backed up on the line.

It’s a problem, but I’ve got a solution, I hope. To extend the factory analogy I’m implementing a…

Some assembly required

policy.

Yup, I’ll write until distracted and then post the portion that is completed. I’ll do my best to keep it in chunks that stand alone as complete concepts and add tidy lead ins to what comes next.

I am hoping this will lead to not only a more consistent delivery of content, but better, more concise content as I try to adjust my writing to fit this new “mold”.

First, as I mentioned in another post my articles can back up like an assembly line of toys waiting for the final piece. Well I’ve got 8 of those now. Now you know why there has been silence for the past couple of days. I’ll be posting my solution to this later.

Now for the news. The first non-IM niche we will explore is Hypnosis.

I came across a post on the Warriorforum providing a list of keywords and a good product from a seasoned veteran in the niche. I’ll use the keywords as a control against my own list, and the product as a test against other products.

The finishing touches are going on Free Niche Marketing Keywords .com and I’m generating the first keyword list(s) now. So look for the list and the first free advertising push tomorrow.

Also, I will be starting a free advertising blitz into the general IM niche. This will be utilizing the so called “crap” methods just to see if there is any way to make them useful.

I am talking about safelists, FFA, banner/traffic exchanges, etc.

So you get to see the results of a lot of theoretically wasted time without any effort on your part at all.

If you have suggestions for upcoming niches voice them at the Squidoo Lens I set up, Breaking In A New Niche.
