Twitter really is a golden goose of opportunity. But if you don’t give it the proper care and feeding your efforts will meet the fate of that fabled animal.
But before we can change the fable we must clear up a myth.
The myth of Twitter is being followed by tweeps with influence and large followings gives you the golden eggs. In truth this is only getting the goose.
You’ve made a big accomplishment in getting the golden geese paying attention to you. But you are still invisible to anyone not already following you.
You get the golden eggs when the tweeps with influence and large followings when take a liking to a tweet from you. This is where proper care and feeding of your flock comes in.
You must provide value, or at least be interesting and informative. When you feed your flock good, nutritious tweets they’ll start laying the golden eggs.
And what are these golden eggs? Replies and retweets.
Everything you tweet is seen only on your profile and in the feeds of your followers. Your tweets do not end up in the profiles of your flock.
Only replies and retweets get you exposed to the larger, more influential, flocks of golden geese.
So give your flock nutrition, and throw in dessert now and again.
And never, ever, spam.
